Aliadas de la 31
Laura_Munios-13.jpg
The football field looks like so many in poor neighbourhoods around the world: hard-packed dirt in place of grass, goalposts that lean awkwardly and a ball that is more than slightly worn..The unusual bit for this part of the world is that the players are girls, aged 11 to 16. And the neighbourhood is one of Argentina's poorest. Villa 31 is a giant squatters' camp housing tens of thousands in the middle of town - just blocks from some of this city's swankiest new towers. The 'Aliadas de la 31' are a women's football team of a central slum in Buenos Aires, the Villa 31.
